Questions

Common questions
about earnings

How does ZIDI calculate my payout? +
Your payout is 85% of the total rental fee collected from the renter. ZIDI retains 15% as a platform fee, which covers payment processing, insurance facilitation, and customer support. You set your own daily rate, so your actual earnings depend on what you charge and how many days your car is rented.
When and how do I get paid? +
Payments are made via M-Pesa directly to your registered number. Payouts are processed within 48–72 hours after a successful rental completes. You can view all pending and completed payouts in your Owner Dashboard.
What daily rate should I set for my car? +
Our calculator shows market-rate suggestions based on your car's make, model, age, and condition. As a guide: economy hatchbacks like the Mazda Demio typically list at KES 3,000–4,000/day; mid-size SUVs like a Subaru Forester at KES 5,000–7,000/day; and premium SUVs like a Toyota Prado at KES 8,000–12,000/day. You have full control to set your own rate.
How realistically can I rent out my car 12 days a month? +
Based on current demand on the ZIDI platform, 10–15 days per month is achievable for well-maintained, reasonably priced vehicles in Nairobi. Weekends see the highest demand. Cars with strong photos, flexible availability, and competitive pricing consistently achieve 15+ days/month. Our default assumption of 12 days represents a conservative mid-range estimate.
Does my car insurance cover ZIDI rentals? +
Standard personal car insurance policies in Kenya typically do not cover commercial rental use. You will need to either upgrade to a commercial rider (usually KES 500–1,500/month from most Kenyan insurers) or use ZIDI's partner insurance option. ZIDI's 15% fee partially goes toward a supplementary damage policy for every trip. We strongly recommend confirming with your insurer before listing.
What happens if a renter damages my car? +
All renters on ZIDI are liable for damages during the rental period. Before every trip, a pre-rental inspection report is completed and signed by both parties. In the event of damage, the renter's deposit (held in escrow) is used first. ZIDI's dispute resolution team is available to assist. We recommend a minimum refundable deposit of KES 5,000–15,000 depending on your car's value.
